Looks like my web hosting company is having problems, so my website it down. Good thing I keep my blog on a separate domain 🙂
I’m practicing my HDR techniques on some photos of mine. Here is one. I used HDR efex pro 2 (free download) to try it out. I’m comparing it to Photomatix, so I’m still not sure which I like better. My problem right now is that with my new Nikon D3200, I take all my photos in RAW format, but my Photoshop CS5 camera RAW doesn’t support my camera. I would have to upgrade to CS6 🙁 I have to resize them to JPEG in ViewNX2 (Nikon software), then process them in HDR software. If I could open my RAW photos in all the software it would be easier to compare. Oh well. It’s still better than doing homework (which I should really be doing).
I finally got a new camera bag for my new camera! It’s from cheeky lime and I just love it.
Today I realized that it’s time to let go of a dream, or at least I thought was something I wanted to do. I’ve been certified to teach PK-6th grades for almost 2 years, but have had trouble getting hired. Maybe that should have been a clue. I kept applying to different jobs, but never had an interview-another clue. After subbing and having to interact with the parents of students, I decided that I don’t like that part of teaching and it’s not worth it anymore.
I will concentrate on finishing my Master’s degree and incorporate my love of photography into my new environmental career.
Well, tomorrow is the first day of school for my daughters, and me too. They are in 11th and 9th grade, and it will be the first time I won’t be taking them to school on their first day. I got a part-time job in their district, but will be working 6-7:20am, so they will be gone when I get home. So glad my older daughter drives 🙂
My classes start in my 2nd to last semester of grad school, and I have decided to drop one class and just take 2 classes. It will be much easier. I’m more nervous about starting a new job than school 🙂
I’ll try to document all this on my new camera! Love it!!!
Here is an article from Wellness Mama about how we are not getting enough magnesium in our diets, and how to make our own magnesium oil.
I came across this article today that lists how to store veggies and fruit in the fridge without plastic. It even has a PDF that can be printed out.
I realized I was out of Worcestershire sauce in the middle of making my homemade chicken salad. I didn’t feel like going to the store, and I knew I could find a recipe on the internet. It was quick and easy, so here it is:
- Apple cider vinegar, ½ cup
- Water, 2 tbsp.
- Soy sauce, 2 tbsp. (low sodium variety)
- Brown sugar, 1 tbsp.
- Garlic powder, ¼ tsp.
- Mustard powder, ¼ tsp.
- Onion powder, ¼ tsp.
- Ginger, ¼ tsp. (minced)
- Cinnamon, a pinch
- Pepper, a dash
Mix all the components together in a cooking pan and place on a medium flame. Allow it to boil and then allow it to simmer on a lower flame for 45 seconds more. Let it cool down before using and store in a cool, dry place. One tablespoon of this can be used to substitute an equal amount of Worcestershire sauce. This makes about ¾ cup of the sauce. (Found: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/worcestershire-sauce-substitute.html)
I really didn’t want to use soy sauce (HFCS) or the brown sugar, but I still have both of those on hand. I will be replacing all the bad staples in my pantry, but right now, since I’m not working, I don’t have the means to just go out and replace everything.
I will continue my hunt for a recipe without HFCS and sugar.
